Here is how I mounted the slinky: I used a stick of about 5' long (here I used an extendable handle from a paint roller). Two brackets made from - of course - corrugated cardboard and white glue are mounted on the wall or blackboard with duct tape. Seven loops of string support the spring along its length, and 2 strips of cardboard are taped to the ends.

The slinky is pulled out with string tied to the top and bottom of the strips at the end of the spring. This is hooked over a paperclip taped to the stick.

The string on the top continues and is tied to the top of each loop to keep them spaced evenly. This way you can pack up and deploy the whole thing quickly, the spring will be spread evenly, and nothing will get tangled up.
