COPPS members are asked to commit 6-10 hours of their time each month for at least one year to responsibilities including:
  1. Publicizing the COPPS project through networking, community presentations, and other methods of public relations
  2. Educating citizens about increasing safety in their neighborhoods through problem solving and partnerships
  3. Assisting the police department with identifying neighborhood and city-wide needs, and with developing and implementing strategic plans to address those needs
  4. Working directly with police substationpersonnel, Patrol Command staff, Community Relations personnel, and Americorps to gain community input into policing efforts
  5. Participating in COPPS meetings at least twice a month
  6. Attending the Citizens Police Academy Training

As an important, active member of the City of Santa Fe, you are invited to join other commited individuals in a unique effort to increase safety, feeling of community, and all around livability of our city. Through COPPS, dedicated residents like you participate in keeping communities safe and thriving. COPPS promotes: partnerships between members of the community, police, and government; proactive problem solving; and community participation in addressing the causes of crime, fear of crime, and other problems of disorder. The COPPS team strives to achieve a full, working partnership between residents and police based on mutual trust, cooperation, and community building.
With the involvement of dedicated leaders like yourselves, attempted collaboration between residents and police can be successful. The COPPS team is seeking members with an interest in working actively toward a brighter future for Santa Fe's residents.
