Don Diego Neighborhood Association (DDNA)
Minutes of the Quarterly Meeting, January 9, 2000
Unitarian Church, Barcleona Street, Santa Fe, NM

  1. The meeting was called to order at 2:30 pm by Laura Wilson. City Planner Carrie La Crosse and Karen Heldmeyer, candidate for City Council, were present with 16 members of the neighborhood.

  2. Donations were requested to pay for interpreters needed by non-hearing neighbors attending future DDNA meetings.
  3. City Councilor Cris Moore had phoned in to say he could not attend this meeting but he welcomed questions and concerns from anyone.

  4. The Cordova sidewalk was added to the agenda.

  5. Laura Wilson provided a brief history of the DDNA. She said that, unknown to participants in the drafting of recent by-laws, valid by-laws had originally been adopted in 1983. Since the last meeting, she and Karen Heldmeyer had revised the original by-laws to add flexibility that fits with the DDNA way of functioning, e.g., no elections. The board consists of all active members of DDNA, and they must approve any change in the by- laws. Open communication is promoted among all members through meetings and the web site at: http://www.hubwest.com/userpages/hubert/neighborhood/ This website serves as a file cabinet, bulletin board, and archive for the DDNA. Hubert van Hecke maintains the site.

  6. Project Update
    1. Railyard meeting - The City Council this Wednesday considers the railyard park and open space easement. It will be a public hearing.

    2. Jimmie's Quikstop - Laura reported that DDNA representatives who have been following plans for building an office building just south of Paseo de Peralta and Cerrillos report that revised plans still propose an inappropriate design for the lot and location. Mr. Torres, who own the adjacent Visions property and is a retired architect, expressed his disapproval of the design and his concern over unsafe traffic conditions caused by too many driveways for the Jimmie's site. Representatives of DDNA and others will meet with developers on January 11 to look at drawing of alternative designs. This could become a test case of community impact provisions. Compliance with those provision is optional.

    3. Whole Foods - There was some discussion of parking over flow. Gilmore Street neighbors were not at this meeting to provide more information.

    4. Entrada park - Anna Richards reported the city has funded developmentof this neighborhood design at $100,000 over two years, starting very soon. Mary McDonald is the city CIP engineer assigned to the project. Two neighbors opposed closure of old Don Diego spur. Representatives are still working out traffic flow details with John Nitzel, traffice engineer. Traffic count data will be

  7. A neighborhood-wide garage sale will be held on Saturday, June 10, followed by a block party.

  8. Karl Kregor, treasurer, reported that we have $500 in our account.

  9. Next meeting is planned for May 7, 2000. We will see if we can hold it in the Whole Foods Community Building.
