Don Diego Neighborhood Association
Minutes of the Quarterly Meeting
Community Room, Whole Foods, Cerrillos Road
January 14, 2001

The meeting was called to order at 2:40 by Karl Kregor. Six person's attended this meeting including City Councilor Karen Heldmeyer, first time attendee Andres Romero, Maria Baca representing Don Canuto Neighborhood Association, Karl Kregor, Dick Chambers, and Laura Wilson. All introduced themselves.
  1. The agenda was approved as submitted as were the minutes of the last meeting.

  2. Karl Kregor, DDNA treasurer reported that we have $534 in the bank and that the bank is starting to charge interest. Karen suggested that Karl investigate Del Norte Credit Union which is in the neighborhood and does not charge a fee for accounts. The only cost is for check printing and the accounts earn interest. As treasurer Karl maintains a contact list for DDNA. He reported that 42 notices of this meeting were mailed out and 39 emailed.

  3. Traffic. Laura Wilson presented a report of traffic on Don Diego written by Ann Firth who lives on Don Diego. A copy was given to Karen Heldmeyer. Karen reported that the police department has committed to monitoring traffic on Don Diego sometime in the next month. Karen cautioned that neighbors are among those driving over the speed limit. The police will stop anyone speeding.

Karen explained that banning trucks on Don Diego would not prevent trucks whose destination is in the neighborhood such as Savon from using Don Diego.

According to Karen any new business which applies for a permit can be required to provide a traffic plan.

Laura Wilson reported that Whole Foods has promised to instruct their truck drivers not to use Don Diego and to talk to their suppliers about it.

The city is supposed to install a sign on Gilmore warning of no access to WF. (Karen)

  4. Traffic Calming. Karen reported that the position for traffic calming coordinator has not been filled yet and that no plans can be submitted until a procedure has been set up. Hubert's traffic calming plan for Don Diego will need to be revised to submit when the time comes. 30% of the residents on the street must agree to the traffic calming plan for submittal to be considered. Though the neighborhood already has a traffic calming plan for Camino de los Marquez which was never implemented due to lack of funds, it is felt that Don Diego is a higher priority.

  5. Entrada Park - Anna Richards sent the message that Jim Romero plans to present the revised plan Tuesday of next week. Karen said she would contact Jim Romero to ask how the project is coming.

  6. Don Canuto Neighborhood Report. Maria Baca informed us that they had made the owners of the vacant land an offer but have not heard back from them. Maria thinks they are probably waiting for the results of their appeal.

Don Canuto Neighborhood Association has filed incorporation papers and are working toward attaining 501C3 status. To date they have received $5,000 in donations toward their park project and have an "umbrella" account with Santa Fe Beautiful. Maria showed a conceptual drawing of the future park.

  7. Cordova sidewalk , first stage, has been completed and is satisfactory according to Hope Reed who was not able to attend today. Karen reported that there is interest on the part of the San Mateo Neighborhood in having the sidewalk completed to Old Pecos Trail.

  8. Laura reported that the Early Neighborhood Notification process (ENN) is currently being reviewed and suggestions for improvement compiled. Karen added that this is running behind schedule. Monica Montoya has been selected to be the Neighborhood Assistance Facilitator to assist neighborhoods in responding to ENN.

  9. Andres Romero, resident of Don Cubero Ave., suggested that the neighborhood plan on decorating the streets this next Christmas using farolitos and luminarios in addition to residents decorating their home with electric lights. Those present at the meeting liked the idea. This will be brought up again at the next meeting. Andres has offered to coordinate the project for the neighborhood and to be in charge of buying supplies such as wood, bags and candles, in order to save money.

Karen advised us that Richard Moore is the person to contact at the city for road closures should that be contemplated.

  10. The next meeting of DDNA will be the annual meeting to be held at Whole Foods Sunday, May 6, 2:30 - 4:30 PM.

Meeting notes were taken by Dick Chambers and edited by Laura Wilson - 1/21/2001.
