Comments:

One of the issues is that 1/2 of next year's 9th graders will take a freshman science class that counts for graduation credit, according to the State of New Mexico, but does not count as a lab science by colleges even state colleges. 1/4 of the freshmen (randomly selected) will take horticulture as their science and 1/4 will take Integrated Science. Neither class is accepted by colleges as a lab science. The result will be that 1/2 of next year's freshman will be one year behind in science at the end of the school year.

An SLC worth considering is the concept of "Career Pathways" which would create clusters based on the interests of the students. The Performing Arts and the Business Department are pursuingjust this approach. The 16 pathways identified by the federal government would encourage community involvement and would create multiple ways for students to participate.

Please note the survey indicates that the opposition is to the way SLC's are to be implemented with Freshmen next year.
